There's not a massive chance I have children, but as a 17 year old right now, singing songs like this to your kids seems really sweet and heartfelt. If I do end up having kids, I'll likely end up singing them They Might Be Giants, Daniel Johnston, and The Beatles every night.

The Beatles and Danial Johnston are excellent picks to join tmbg for bedtime Evan. If you ever find yourself near a bed with a sleepy child (that is yours) trust your gut.

This is such a fun, danceable, uplifting song! Thanks for sharing. I softly sang traditional lullabies to my kids to rock them to sleep. Our son introduced his favorite music - not lullabies - to his boys when they were babies. It’s fun to see them share interests in music. Yay for you for singing to your kids!

Those traditional lullabies still made it into my rotation for sure. My mom used to sing me Rainbow Connection at bedtime so I passed that song as a lullaby down to my kids as well.

Thanks Kathy!

Great story! It really is a fantastic song and I can see how it works as a lullaby. Also “Mammal” and “Older.” Happy Father’s Day to you!

Thanks so much Steve!

My oldest kid told me recently that hearing “You’re older than you’ve ever been and now you’re even older,” became something that he dwelled on often. Ooops 🤷🏻‍♂️

“Birdhouse” is a masterpiece. It’s adorable that you sang it to your kids. Happy Father’s Day.

My dad would lull us with “Molly Malone,”, an Irish death ballad and a strange choice as a lullaby. But he would pep it up by letting us sing the chorus: “Cockles and mussels!”

He also sang “Johnny B. Goode” and “Rocky Raccoon.” Quite a range.

Sam, now that you bring it up, think I did Rocky raccoon for a hot minute!

Thankfully, the majority of my kids grew up to find their own fandom in They Might Be Giants which I find endlessly endearing. Thanks Sam.
