Kiss Me, Son of Extras: She Was A Hotel Detective
She used to keep her ears to walls, tappin' the calls. Now this hotel detective has climbed the ladder, become a billionaire, and runs the world.
Remember the woman who was a hotel detective from They Might Be Giants’ self titled album? The one in the song with the wild laughing John Flansburgh, crunchy guitars, and saxophone? Nearly ten years later, John Linnell presented Flansy with this follow up to our hero, which they released on the Back To Skull EP.
Linnell used pitch-shifting tools to reach the high notes in the chorus but during live performances, Flansy would hit the falsettos for this one and that is partly what led him to write the song How Can I Sing Like A Girl.
Anyway, I really enjoy this one and sing it in the car all the time. I wish so badly that I could walk into any karaoke spot and they’d have this available to sing. It would absolutely make my night. Check it out and let me know what you think.
You’re reading a post from Kiss Me, Son of Extras. A series of posts for the TMBG songs that don’t live on a big studio album. These posts are for the EP tracks, the rarities. The ones tucked away in between bigger releases but are also woven into my actual life.
