I feel this. We learn to say "I'm fine," when things aren't fine at all, because most of the time the question of "how are you?" isn't really a genuine question, just part of a small talk routine. I also struggle with how to reply, sometimes giving the honest answer or pausing a little to long to think about it. People tend to read it as being a little off. It seems to be a common problem amongst the neurodivergent community - being a little too honest and literal. It's refreshing when you can read the person as someone genuinely interested, but it's always awkward when you've read them wrong or they're not prepared for an actual answer.

So true. Thankfully, most of my friends and all of my friends are neurodivergent so there’s already this understanding amongst us. I’ve learned that for normies out there who ask how I’m doing, if I just say “pretty good, how are you doing,” it makes them happy and I can get back to my day haha
